HAAS TYRON 2000XL 2.0 - Commercial Waste
Background
Biffa operates a commercial waste collection depot at their Salmon Pastures facility in Sheffield. Having recently acquired the facility from Viridor, Biffa required a slow-speed shredder to shred their incoming waste collections.
Challenge
CRJ Services has a long-standing history of supporting Biffa, supplying them with various material processing equipment across the UK. Therefore, when Anthony Gaughan, Depot Manager at Biffa Salmon Pastures, required a hire of a shredder for their new facility CRJ Services and the HAAS TYRON came highly recommended.

With the variety of waste materials being received at the Salmon Pastures facility, the shredder needed to deliver high-performance and consistent throughput rates across a range materials.
Solution
Following several weeks processing with the HAAS TYRON Anthony commented, “This shredder performs unlike anything I’ve seen before. Our previous machine struggled with certain materials but the Tyron shreds 99% of our material, it’s a great money saver on landfill diversion.”
Another key factor in the successful relationship developed with Biffa is the backup support CRJ Services delivers. CRJ Services has a team of field-based heavy plant mechanics strategically located around the UK and Ireland who are on hand to respond to customers’ needs fast. The field team is supported by the CRJ Support Desk who can diagnose many issues remotely and dispatch the engineers promptly to arrive on site with the correct tooling and parts to get the equipment back up and running, with minimal disruption.

A unique element of providing long-term shedder hire with CRJ Services is their ‘Swing Program’, which ensures the consistent performance of the shredder for the duration of the hire. When the hired shredder is due to be hard-faced, CRJ Services will swap the existing shredder out for a like machine so that the customers operation can continue, whilst the first shredder is taken away to be hard-faced off site. This not only ensures the consistent performance of the shredder throughout the hire, but also minimises disruption to the operation when hardfacing of the shredding shafts is needed.
