Henshaws Envirocare Improves C&D Waste Sorting with Steelweld Rotary AST1500

Henshaws Envirocare Ltd, based in Macclesfield, Cheshire, is a leading provider of domestic, commercial, and industrial waste management services. Through their skip hire and trade waste operations, Henshaws process large volumes of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, requiring efficient segregation to recover valuable materials for reuse and further processing.

Optimising Construction and Demolition Waste Processing

At the initial stage of separation, Henshaws employ a deck screener with a three-way split. This separates the incoming material into sub-20mm fines, 20–75mm mid-size, and oversize fractions. While the fines and oversize streams are processed according to existing protocols, the mid-size fraction requires additional separation into light and heavy components.

The heavy fraction is reused as a hardcore product in construction, while the light fraction is sent for further processing. To ensure accurate and efficient separation of the mid-size material, Henshaws contacted CRJ Services for a tailored solution.

A Precision Solution for Density Separation

Following a site visit to inspect the material and discuss operational requirements, Mike Symons, Area Sales Manager at CRJ Services, recommended the Steelweld Rotary AST1500 air separator. This compact, mobile density separator was selected for its ability to accurately sort the mid-size fraction into light and heavy components, enhancing material recovery and quality.

The AST1500 uses dual blower fans to separate materials based on density, providing precise control over the output streams. The fully adjustable feed belt, air system, and air knife allow operators to fine-tune the separation process to achieve optimal results for varying material types.

Flexibility and Mobility on Site

Designed for mobility, the Steelweld Rotary AST1500 is tracked, making it easy to move around the site. It can be powered either by its onboard generator or connected to a customer’s mains supply via an interlock switch, providing operational flexibility and convenience for Henshaws’ varied processing requirements.
