The NPORS N603 Wood Chipper–Shredder course provides operators with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely and efficiently operate wood chippers and shredders. Combining classroom-based learning with hands-on practical assessment, the course covers relevant legislation, hazard awareness, machine inspections, safe feeding techniques, and correct operating procedures. On successful completion, candidates achieve a nationally recognised NPORS qualification, helping employers meet health and safety requirements while improving site safety and productivity.

NPORS Wood Chipper - Shredder (N603) Course Content

To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

 

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
  • Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
  • Select suitable type of machine relative to the work being undertaken
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for wood chipper - shredder use
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
  • Prepare the wood chipper - shredder for use
  • Operate machinery safely and efficiently

  • Storage and transport of wood chipper - shredder
  • Disposal of cut materials
