NPORS N209 Loading Shovel
Essential training for safe, competent, and compliant loading shovel operation
The NPORS N209 Loading Shovel course provides operators with the knowledge and practical skills required to operate loading shovels safely and efficiently. Through a combination of classroom-based learning and hands-on practical assessment, the course covers relevant legislation, hazard awareness, pre-use inspections, safe operating techniques, and correct loading and stockpiling procedures. On successful completion, candidates achieve a nationally recognised NPORS qualification, helping employers meet health and safety requirements while improving site safety and operational efficiency.
NPORS Loading Shovel (N209) Course Content
To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their
responsibilities as an operator - Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for loading shovel use
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Prepare the loading shovel for use, operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Environmental considerations
- Storage and transport of implements and attachments
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
