Crapper and Sons Landfill Ltd, an independent family-owned business just outside Swindon, UK, provides comprehensive recycling and waste management services. Operating across a 170-acre site, the company dedicates 40 acres to industrial and commercial landfill and 30 acres to recycling operations. Central to their mission is diverting as much waste as possible from landfill, reclaiming and repurposing valuable materials through their Materials Recycling Facility (MRF).

Maintaining Processing Capacity During Expansion

With a new MRF under construction to increase capacity and efficiency, Crapper and Sons needed a temporary solution to continue processing commercial and construction waste. Flexibility and speed of deployment were key requirements, ensuring that operations could continue uninterrupted during the construction phase.

To meet these requirements, Crapper and Sons turned to CRJ Services and Kiverco’s modular range of equipment. The modular units provide a complete, flexible waste processing system that can be quickly set up and integrated with existing workflows.

Density Separation with the Kiverco DS150

The Kiverco DS150 compact density separator efficiently sorts materials into light and heavy fractions using twin recirculating air blowers. This separation ensures that lighter waste materials can be removed early in the process, improving the quality of the heavy fraction for downstream processing.

Integrated Picking with the Kiverco PS123

To complement the density separation, the Kiverco PS123 picking station combines manual sorting, air separation, and magnetic separation in a single compact unit. The infeed conveyor’s fan blower module removes light materials, while operators manually select desired materials from the heavy fraction. All outgoing material passes beneath an overband magnet to remove ferrous metals, ensuring clean, recyclable outputs.

Flexible Operation for Large Sites

Both units can be powered by integrated diesel or electric generators, providing operational flexibility across large sites. Additionally, the hydraulically adjustable jack-leg system allows users to adjust the equipment height, enabling seamless integration into existing processing lines.
