Keenan Recycling Strengthens Processing Capacity with JENZ BA 926 Investment

Established in 2001, Keenan Recycling has grown from a garden waste composting operation near Aberdeen into the UK’s largest organic waste management company. At the heart of the business is a strong commitment to sustainability, underpinned by an integrated food waste management service that transforms organic waste into renewable energy through its innovative processing facility in Scotland.

Each year, Keenan Recycling processes approximately 100,000 tonnes of garden and food waste, converting it into high-quality compost used by farmers to improve soil health. In parallel, food waste is used to produce valuable biofuels, which are converted into green electricity, creating a genuinely circular economy where waste is transformed into a resource.

A Long-Standing Partnership

Keenan Recycling’s relationship with CRJ Services dates back to 2006, when the business first hired a trommel. Over the years, this partnership has expanded to include the hire of slow-speed shredders, picking stations, and deck screeners, while CRJ has also cross-hired machines from Keenan — building a collaborative working relationship spanning more than 15 years.

Investment in JENZ high-speed shredders has also been a consistent part of Keenan’s processing strategy. The company purchased its first JENZ BA 725 in 2008, and since then has taken delivery of a new JENZ machine approximately every three years. This long-term commitment reflects continued confidence in JENZ technology and its ability to deliver reliable performance in high-throughput organic waste applications.

Meeting Growing Production Demands

With production volumes increasing year on year, Grant Keenan, Managing Director of Keenan Recycling, contacted CRJ Services in December 2022 to discuss options for expanding shredding capacity. Following consultation and specification, Keenan Recycling took delivery of a new JENZ BA 926 high-speed shredder in April 2023.

The BA 926 was selected for its ability to deliver increased throughput, consistent output quality, and advanced machine management features.
