With demand for their compost products growing year on year, the team began exploring ways to make their processing operation more efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly.

When Growth Meets Limitation

Gray existing trommel had served them well, but as throughput increased, so did the strain on their production line. The older diesel-driven machine was not only more costly to run, but also less aligned with the company’s environmental goals.

Finding the Perfect Fit with the Kentek 620S

After working alongside CRJ, the team at Gray confirmed the Kentek 620S Static Electric Trommel as the ideal upgrade.

The 620S offers high screening performance with low operating costs, powered by an efficient electric drive that reduces emissions and noise, perfect for a site so focused on the environment.

Ben McQuaid worked closely with Gray to ensure a seamless integration into their site setup.

Beyond the machine itself, the Kentek solution also enabled Gray to develop a bespoke, fully integrated processing plant, tailored to their operation.

The setup includes an auger on the hopper to maintain steady material flow, further up the belt is a bi-directional magnet for enhanced metal recovery and once the material has gone through the trommel it is met by a density separator to remove light contaminants like plastics and improve the purity.

This custom design ensures Gray achieves maximum efficiency and product quality – all while maintaining a clean, sustainable operation that supports their growing customer base.

Since installation, the Kentek 620S has transformed Gray production line. The new trommel offers consistent, high-quality screening, lower running costs, and near-silent operation compared to its diesel predecessor.

The switch to electric power has also reduced carbon emissions – a key milestone in Gray drive to make their composting process as environmentally responsible as possible.
