Somerford Park Farm Uses Doppstadt SM518 to Maintain Horse-Riding Tracks

Somerford Park Farm, established in 1976, is one of the UK’s leading equestrian centres. Hosting international horse trials and premier league dressage events, Somerford prides itself on maintaining its facilities to the highest standards.

Part of the farm’s offering is ‘The Farm Ride’, a 7-mile trail through beautifully landscaped countryside. Maintaining this track presents challenges, as pot holes and uneven ground can be hazardous for horses. To keep the track safe, the team re-sands the surface to fill holes and level the ground.

The Challenge

It is crucial that the sand is free from stones and foreign objects to prevent injury to the horses’ hooves. To achieve this, Somerford contacted CRJ Services’ hire team to screen the sand using a Doppstadt SM518 trommel.

The Solution

As the amount of sand to process was relatively small, CRJ’s short 3-day hire option offered a cost-effective solution, allowing Somerford to screen the material without a long-term hire commitment.

CRJ promptly delivered the Doppstadt SM518 equipped with a 15mm screening drum, effectively removing stones and debris from the sand. The compact and efficient machine enabled the team to prepare the riding surface quickly and safely.
