As quality and product specification is of the utmost importance to us, CRJ’s recommendation on the best machine for the job and how the product should be processed to ensure exact sizing and no contamination, was invaluable.
Gary Moores, Partner, P.H. Winterton Ltd
The Background
Having been in the business for over 50 years, P. H. Winterton & Son are now one of the country’s largest suppliers of top quality wood shavings, and sawdust for animal and poultry bedding and have more recently established an outstanding reputation as suppliers of high quality fuel for biomass applications.
Their products are available in bulk, bagged, or baled and the quality of the products is of upmost importance so they can be used safely for all livestock, agricultural, poultry and domestic uses.
The Challenge
P. H. Winterton’s have recently started to produce a biomass product for a biomass boiler in Derbyshire. They are producing around 25 tonnes of biomass per week, deriving this product from ‘A’ grade wood residue from the joinery manufacturing industry.
The key issues affecting the biomass fuel market are the reliability, quality and sustainability of material supply within the UK. The end product for the Derbyshire boiler must be a 40mm uniform sized chip. The chip has to be the metal free and regular size as the biomass boiler will reject any out of size material or contaminated material.
The Solution
CRJ continue to supply P.H. Winterton with hire equipment to meet their regular shredding requirements, but in order to meet the team’s specifications for their new product, CRJ recommended a Doppstadt AK430 High Speed Shredder manned by a qualified operator, to ensure the machine offers the best possible return on investment during the hire period.
CRJ worked with P.H. Winterton to refine their production techniques in order achieve the required product and quality specifications, whilst meeting the desired production rates. The high speed shredder was used together with an end roller magnet to remove all ferrous metal contaminants.
Gary Moores, Partner at P. H. Winterton explained why he has chosen CRJ as a supplier “As quality and product specification is of the utmost importance to us, CRJ’s recommendation on the best machine for the job and how the product should be processed to ensure exact sizing and no contamination, was invaluable.
They understand the demands of our market and demonstrate a detailed knowledge of how to produce the best quality product, quickly and efficiently.
