Driving Sustainability Forward: CRJ Services’ Solar Investment

At CRJ, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact while continuing to deliver high-quality solutions for our customers.

That’s why we’ve invested in a 105kWp solar panel installation, a long-term step towards cleaner energy, lower emissions, and a more sustainable way of operating.

Generating Clean Energy On-Site

Our solar array allows us to produce renewable electricity directly at our facility, significantly reducing our reliance on grid power generated from burning and fossil fuels.

In the next 25 years, the system will generate 2,309,076 kWh of clean electricity. That’s over 2.3 million units of energy produced without burning fuel, a major step in cutting operational emissions.

Reducing Carbon Emissions

Electricity is one of the biggest contributors to a company’s carbon footprint. By switching to solar, we are actively lowering the emissions associated with our day-to-day operations.

Based on our energy profile:

Current emissions from electricity: 37.4 tCO₂e per year and without intervention, this would rise significantly with increased demand. By generating a large proportion of our own power, we reduce dependence on carbon-intensive grid electricity, and lower overall emissions year-on-year.

Maximising Energy Efficiency

Our solar installation has been designed around how we actually use electricity, ensuring minimal waste and maximum impact. We estimate that 63.29% of generated energy is used on-site and the remaining 36.71% is exported back to the grid.

This means we directly power our operations with renewable energy, and surplus energy is fed back into the network, supporting wider clean energy use. It’s a system that benefits both our business and the wider energy ecosystem.

Supporting the Transition to Electric Vehicles

Sustainability doesn’t stop at electricity, it extends to how we travel and operate as a team.

To complement our solar investment, we are introducing:

• EV charging stations on-site
• Support for employees transitioning to electric vehicles

By pairing solar generation with EV charging, we’re creating a more sustainable, closed-loop system where clean energy directly powers vehicles, reducing emissions from daily commuting and steadily decreasing reliance on fossil fuels.

This ensures decades of consistent, low-carbon energy generation with no ongoing emissions from production. At the same time, with energy prices historically rising by around 8% annually, generating our own power not only delivers long-term cost savings but also helps reduce the environmental impact linked to growing demand on the national grid.
