Haas Tyron 2000XL 2.0 – Commercial & Industrial Waste

We chose this [Haas Tyron 2000XL 2.0] for it’s twin shaft set up, and the ability to reduce the material to the size required. We would certainly recommend the Haas Tyron 2000XL 2.0, and after developing a relationship with Ben over a number of years, we would certainly recommend CRJ Services.

Binn Group Enhances SFR Production with Haas Tyron 2000XL 2.0 Shredder

Binn Group, Scotland’s largest independent provider of integrated recycling and waste management services, has strengthened its commitment to landfill diversion and sustainable waste management with the installation of a Haas Tyron 2000XL 2.0 twin-shaft shredder at their facility. With Scotland aiming to send just 5% of its waste to landfill by 2025, Binn Group continues to lead the way in recycling, reuse, and energy recovery initiatives.

Driving High-Quality Recycling Outputs

Operating a comprehensive materials recycling facility, Binn Group separates, grades, and bales a wide variety of recyclable materials before sending them to reprocessors. Over 86% of materials entering the facility are transformed into valuable commodities, while the remaining 14% is processed into Solid Recovered Fuel (SFR), generating electricity from materials that would otherwise be landfilled.

To prepare materials for SFR production, they must be shredded to a consistent 250–300mm particle size and dried. Previously, this was achieved using a single-shaft shredder, which struggled to maintain the required consistency and often produced unshredded material along with foreign objects, affecting the quality of the final SFR product.

Choosing the Right Shredder

Seeking to improve the quality of their SFR and reduce operational downtime, Binn Group engaged with Matpro and CRJ Services to find a suitable solution. After careful assessment, the Haas Tyron 2000XL 2.0 was selected for its twin-shaft configuration and advanced operational features.

The Haas Tyron’s hydraulically driven twin shafts operate independently, allowing them to reverse to clear wrapped material automatically. Built-in pressure sensors detect foreign objects, reversing the shafts to clear the material and attempting shredding up to three times before stopping for manual removal if necessary. This system ensures a consistent particle size of 250–300mm, eliminating the inconsistencies previously produced by the single-shaft shredder.

Seamless Performance and Reliability

During a site visit, Stewart Smith, Operations Director at Binn Group, shared his experience with the new machine. “We chose this [Haas Tyron 2000XL 2.0 for its twin-shaft setup and its ability to reduce material to the required size. We would certainly recommend the Haas Tyron 2000XL 2.0, and after developing a relationship with Ben over a number of years, we would certainly recommend CRJ Services.”

The installation has delivered tangible benefits, including reduced downtime, consistent shred size, and improved SFR quality. By reliably processing materials into the correct specification, the Haas Tyron 2000XL 2.0 ensures that Binn Group can continue diverting waste from landfill while producing a high-value fuel product.

The project underscores the value of combining advanced machinery with trusted partnerships, enabling Binn Group to maintain its leading position in Scotland’s recycling and waste management sector while supporting national landfill diversion targets.
