AKS Skip Hire Services Ltd, a family-run skip hire business based in Norwich, has built a strong reputation for efficiency and sustainability in the management of construction and demolition waste. Supplying over 600 skips across the region, the company also operates a tipping service at their waste transfer station. AKS recycle 100% of the material they receive, with 85% processed on-site and the remaining 15% supplied to a local power station as fuel.

Meeting the Challenge of Growing Volumes

As AKS continues to expand and manage increasing tonnages of waste, the company identified the need for a robust shredder to reduce the volume of bulky C&D waste before it reached the picking line. The shredder would need to handle a variety of materials while producing a consistent particle size for efficient downstream processing.

Several machines were demonstrated on-site, with the HAAS TYRON 2000XL 2.0 emerging as the ideal solution. Each shaft is independently driven, with adjustable settings allowing operators to switch between materials in minutes.

The newly upgraded HAAS TYRON also features a hydraulically height-adjustable neodymium magnet. This allows operators to optimise magnetic separation across different material types quickly and efficiently, improving both throughput and quality of the recovered commodities.

Ground-level access to the shredding chamber, improved space around the engine and hydraulic compartments, and a redesigned chamber make daily checks and servicing quicker and easier. These features reduce downtime and ensure the machine consistently performs at its best.

“It is still early days as we have only had the machine 3 or 4 weeks, but so far so good. The machine is performing well, and the back up has been great. We have also had the telematics (online monitoring) and fire suppression fitted, so we are all up and running, and everything is going well at the moment.”
